    Have you ever heard of...Quidditch?

Hey, it's RTSender again, and this is a sort of thing I became involved with over the past year now. You all know about Quidditch, the renowned fictional sport from the Harry Potter books/movies, right? Let me ask you this: did you know it's actually real?

Last September, I became a part of BGSU's Quidditch team, the BG Marauders. You would think that people running around with brooms between their legs would be a cheap and inaccurate recreation of the flying equivalent in the world of JK Rowling. Well...it's true that we as a civilization lack the means to fly on broomsticks, but I would say that this version of Quidditch is 10 times as intense and 10 times as cool as the sport portrayed in Harry Potter, partially because the version I play is real.

Here's a video of us against Ohio State last October. In case you want to know, I'm in the number 8 jersey with the long hair and the aviators .

If you would like for me to explain how this crazy game is played so you have a better understanding of what's going on in the video, I'd be happy to.
A boy has the right to dream. There are endless possibilities stretched out before him. What awaits him down the path he will then have to choose; the boy doesn't always know. At some point the boy then becomes an adult, and learns what he was able to become. Joy and sadness will forever accompany this. He is confronted with a choice; when this happens, does he bid his past farewell in his heart? Once a boy becomes an adult, he can no longer go back to being a boy; the boy is now a man. Only one thing can be said: "A boy has the right to dream.". For those endless possibilities are stretched out before him.

We must remember...all men were once boys.

Nice, another college in the Midwest. University of Kansas has a really tough team; they may be ranked lower than us right now, but the rankings are only based off of this year's games. Here's the official IQA standings in case you're interested:

But yeah, is your college doing more of an intermural Quidditch thing, or are you still planning things out?

BGSU. Ranked 5th. We had an excellent building year last year, and I believe we're the best in Ohio right now, but the teams in the Northeast are so much better as a whole than the teams in the Midwest. We're hoping to change that.

The best advice I can give is to find people who are interested in this sort of thing and just start playing for fun. Use Facebook to your advantage; create a group and starting bouncing ideas back and forth about about scheduling times to play, how to get people involved, fundraising, etc. The only real materials you need to play are six hoops (you can make these out of anything; hula hoops, PVC, and duct tape are an option), cones for boundaries, a volleyball, two dodgeballs, 15-20 "brooms (anything that looks like a broomstick will work, even if it's just a shaft of wood or plastic) and a playing field. Don't be afraid to recruit athletes, either; you'd be surprised at how many football players and gymnasts are interested in playing Quidditch.

I was with a group, and trying to get them on facebook is laughable. But we have next year
