Thread: Betting

I noticed something in my own family that seems to be an issue for some of them... Sports betting.

I asked a few of them why they bet on games and they all said about the same thing.. "It makes it more fun to watch.". My question is, why do people feel betting on the game gives it more value than just being able to enjoy it for what it is? I never bet on a game. I don't see the point of it but I guess for some people it makes the game more "interesting" (??).

Anyone on here bet on games or knows someone who does?

It's just one of those things that some people will enjoy doing whilst others will be strongly against it. Personally I have not placed any bets on anything yet but I may start to bet on some football (soccer to you Americans) matches that Chelsea play in. I think sometimes it can be a good way to just earn some extra cash on the side for you to enjoy. However, when people get addicted to betting that can be disastrous. It can end up destroying families as some people may end up spending a lot of cash, some of which may have been saved for the future. So it's important that when you bet, you bet responsibly.

That is really my only issue with it. Like people who get addicted. I have a few people in my family who hardly win but they continue to bet and they get so angry and mad when they lose. One of them even gets violent by breaking things. Like what is the point!? It should be in good fun or you shouldn't do it at all.

I did place bets when I was a bit young, maybe around 9 or 10 just for fun. We would bet on what local basketball team would win the game. Well it does add a bit of excitement unlike when you aren't betting anything. If you are one of those people who bets almost on anything you would understand. I used to play billiards, a normal game is way different than one that has a big bet on it. What's even more exciting is when you place a bet and you're not the one who is playing. Luckily I have outgrown this thing. I used to throw a lot of cash and earn even a lot more from betting. I totally made this for a living just to finish my high school years.

I've only done it twice. The first was Brexit which I won. The second was Donald Trump which I also won, and made a sweet ~$400 from. (After placing ~$40.) Thanks Trump.

Sports betting holds a very special place in my heart. I bet almost every day on soccer matches and I've got to say, I win a lot, I mean A LOT! It started as a social event. Guys like to place bets on games in order to brag about it later when their team wins. Eventually, I started to place bets online, on the sports betting sites like Sportpesa, Betway, Betin and the like. I am not even a pro. There's a friend of mine who is so good at predicting outcomes for soccer games that he sells odds. He predicts the results of several games then when you use his predictions you have to pay him like a dollar or two for the service. He also places bets and wins for himself. The selling odds is more of a 'referral programme' for him and he can not shut up about how good he is.

Haha! You placed a bet for Donald Trump to win, that's just awesome. And $400, oh my! That's a considerable amount of money.

Back to the question, betting for a game makes it more exciting to watch because you feel you are now a part of it. You have a stake in the game. You gain something if your team win and you lose something when not. If you don't have any stake on, like let's say a race, why would you even care who wins or lose? Right?
