Lukaku just delivered on the biggest tournament

There was this reoccurring assertion that the Manchester United new number 9 in the the person of Romelu Lukaku is yet to prove if he is a world class striker until he score in the Champions League tournament. He has played for Belgium his country, Chelsea, WestBrom and Everton football club and in all his football career, he has never graced the Champions League competition.

This was the major reason he left his last club Everton and switched to Manchester United in search for champions League football and on 12th of September 2017, he got that opportunity against Basel and put all doubt about him not being a world class player in scoring with a strong header.

What are your take on Lukaku's performance so far in the new season? And how many goals do you think he would be able to score before season end? Personally, I would say 35 goals in all competitions.

He's a good player but we already knew that after his performances for Everton. The issue is that he tends to go missing against the bigger clubs but that might not be the case now that he plays for Manchester United and has a much better midfield to back him up. I wouldn't say he "delivered on the biggest tournament" yet. This is still the group stages after all and it wasn't exactly the hardest opponents you were playing. We can only truly see if he is a top class striker once he starts netting against the biggest clubs like Bayern, Real Madrid or Barcelona. I'm sure he will do extremely well for you especially in the league but we will have to wait and see if he can continue his form later on in the Champions League.

I think that you have got a good point there but I would love to point out that he has already scored against big teams like Real Madrid during the International Championship Competition (ICC) and also against Manchester City during the pre season games.

Definitely, I'm quite confident he would still lots of goals against bigger team this season because as you said earlier he has got the middle players to supply him with enough balls to score and he is doing it well lately ever since he swapped jersey from Everton to Manchester United. I think his scoring ratio is quite good, 5 goals in 5 matches is not bad at all with 4 in Premier League and 1 in champions League.

I would be very careful when using that example, to be honest. Real Madrid whilst playing in the International Championship Competition will not be the same Real Madrid that you play against if you come up against them in the Champions League. It's the same with Manchester City, preseason City will play a lot more relaxed and a lot differently to the one that you come up against in the Premier League. I do believe that he will do well for you but we must wait and see before we can say that he has delivered on the biggest tournament especially since it is still the group stages. Once he starts delivering for you in the latter stages like the Last 16 or Semi-Finals, then we can say he has truly delivered, and he was truly worth the 90 million you paid for him.
