Thread: So are all sports canceled?

I know the NBA shut down but it seems like there are no other sports happening, at least not in the US.

Is this the case for everywhere? I mean I know that concerts and other large social gatherings have all been canceled because of the outbreak. I would imagine that all sports are off the table at this point.

Seems to be the case here. Many footballers are facing pay cuts. I prefer seeing the money going towards those who are doing their utmost to fight the crisis, rather than some rich people kicking a ball.

I get that sports are important to many, many people. But some are acting like it's the end of the world which is dumb when there are completely valid reasons why they should be cancelled for now.

Same with the Olympics. Given that the problem has escalated in Tokyo there's no chance of them changing their minds and going ahead with it now. I see it as more logical to break the tradition and hold the games next year, kinda as a way to celebrate the world's eventual triumph.

The only negative I can see is that (while expensive to build a stadium and keep up a team) Sports are generally run to some extent by the local government and the money goes back into the community somehow. At the very least, stadiums should generate quite a bit of taxes but they should absolutely not be open now. In other types of crisis situation, perhaps, but not one that deals with a highly-spreadable disease.

Seems like it. Even my father's '42' Tournaments (a type of domino game) are cancelled. He is irked, but understands.
