Star Trek vs. Star Wars

It's a legitimate debate worthy of Blue Heaven.
Who has not been touched by these series?
Their affect on popular culture is indeed worthy of respect.
(On a side note: is it 'affect' or 'effect' in this case?

Each series has it's own character,
their own merits and short comings.
But which one is better?
Which is superior?
Which is the better space epic?

Have at it y'all.

Hmmm. Well from what I've seen/read (which admittedly, isn't much), Trek romps home without a problem as far as tech is concerned. Alright, so Star Wars' Galactic Empire has a Death Star and some colossal machines (such as the AT-AT).

...but this is that same Death Star which was swarmed by a tiny squadron and trounced by "a small, one-man fighter" (from the same universe!) and then owned again two movies later by... well, pretty much the same thing, really.

Trek has all sorts of weird **** that I can't even begin to mention; but I'll mention the transporters. SUDDENLY, INVASION.

Also:

Borg.

For the unfamiliar, the Borg are very much like the Strogg from Quake II/Quake 4. And if you're unfamiliar with them too; they're both a pseudo-race of cybernetic horrors, that exist only to conquer and assimilate practically every other species in existence into becoming one with their own. They'll cut you down and then harvest your parts for reinforcements. You can't reason with them, and they number in the millions with only one purpose; literally owning you both physically and mentally.

Sorry, but it doesn't matter who you are. Get your ship/starbase/planet infected by these sum*****s (which would be a dead cert with that transporter tech), and you can kiss your ass goodbye. Forget those Imperial Stormtroopers, too; Borg can 'adapt' to energy-based weapons. And seeing as they don't really have a mind of their own, none of that Jedi mind-control nonsense is going to mean a damn thing.

Sorry Obi-Wan, you're going to be wearing a prosthetic face from now on. So hand over those eyes.

Oh, and the Borg did that time-travel stuff too. So once/if Wars gets the upper hand... they'll just go back a couple of hundred years and **** everything up in the 'present' time instantly. Yeah, that includes you, Vader.

Well, looks like Trek the Borg win this one hands down, alone. Never mind Spock-Logic ruining Emperor Palpatine's ****.

Now, as for which one I prefer on a personal, non-crossover level?

This is coming from someone that generally prefers Star Wars. The characters and events are generally more interesting with less plot-device ass-pulls, and the aliens also look a lot more unique from species to species; none of that blobby-headed humanoid stuff, or black guys with savoury pastries growing out of their foreheads.

Although Trek, to its merits, does have the ever-welcome Redshirt. And you've got to love Redshirts. Especially when there's an army of them.

You know, I've never though much of the Borg til now.
Clearly I have not given them enough credit.

I wouldn't call his brow savory,

They could be much more creative.
These guys are supposed to be scouring the galaxy after all.

At least they started making half an effort with the Klingons from TNG onward:

But all it took was adding one of these to his face to create something instantly recognisable from sci-fi:
