I wanted to clear up a few things. If the swear filters and some of the rules seem a bit strict to you, I want to explain why I chose it. I'm not some goody two-shoes prude. As a matter of fact, I swear all the time off the forum. It's not just about censorship, though it is partially. Remember, some anime fans are young, and I don't want links to sites with 18+ content or excessive vulgarity. I hope you can understand.

The main reason behind this is that over the past decade, I've been a fairly active member of more forums than I can count on my fingers and toes. A lot of these I've seen develop over the years. A select few in particular I've seen go from a nice and pleasant community to a breeding ground for trolls. What was the cause of this? For the most part, administrators and moderators not willing to police the community.

I've witnessed members continuously participate in discussions of total negativity and rather vulgar content. Slowly but surely, some forums have gone from great to, well... nothing. I dislike censorship as much as you probably do. Outlaw Star UK is just starting out. I strongly believe that prevention is better than cure. It's easily possible to enjoy good discussion with such moderation in place, and I don't ever want a troll infestation in the future. Clamping down on that efficiently is a good way to go about things.

I'd be grateful if you could understand this from an administrator's viewpoint. If you have any questions about this policy, you can ask here. In addition, you can request removal of an unreasonable swear filter in the sticky thread in this forum. Thanks.
