    Hey, I was wondering.

I've been on this forum a little while, but i haven't been active at all because I've been busy (but hopefully that will change).
I was just wondering, in addition to this forum, is there any kind of chatroom or something to actively discuss topics (like an Outlaw Star Discord or something?).
I'm just asking, because while forums are well and good for their own reasons, I also like to talk actively about stuff.

None that I've heard about. Would be cool to do. I was thinking of proposing of a skype night where we can chat and shoot the shit about whatever is on our minds. Might be worth looking into.

It may even be cool to have a weekly watch of the season. Like everyone watches the episodes and chats while they do, then have a recap thread where people can share their thoughts and what not. I see it being done all over online with different shows.

I'm currently on an anime discord server (which I won't name because I'm pretty sure that's advertising) which I have the same username.
Of course, I haven't been remotely subtle about Outlaw Star and have been reccomending it nonstop.
There were some people there who had already seen it that started reminiscing and some that have had it on their list for a while that intend to watch it soon.

Hopefully I get a few converts

And yeah KorinKitty, that server also does those kind of sessions, so I can see the appeal. Maybe I can convince them to air Outlaw Star >0>

(As a bonus they have a waifu claim and Aisha was luckily unclaimed. Nyahehe)

But all in all, it's been fun to just shoot the shizzle with them (not always on outlaw star or anime. Just in general) with other fans of the series or anime in general.
So a discord server or chatroom of any other kind for Outlaw Star fans would definitely be cool to see.

I'll raise you another level. If somebody hosts the anime on a private/unlisted YouTube or GoogleDrive channel, we could all get together and watch episodes simultaneously with one of these synchronous streaming sites

    https://synchtu.be/
    https://cytu.be/

You take a valid link, plug it into the playlist and the video will play for everyone logged into the room simultaneously. Kinda like the good old days of inviting your friends over to play video games/watch movies etc.

All we'd have to do is plan a certain day and time to do it to get as many people online as possible to watch, and make sure everyone's able to see the video (sometimes you need browser plugins to get videos working)

That could work very well, LtSurge. Hell, we can make it like an anime or a movie night or something to that effect. That could be a lot of fun.

Regarding the anime night, it so happens that I think I have us covered there. (Just read my signature. ) I pay for a Plex server that has ten gigabits of bandwidth, so I've been waiting for something like this. I have tried this with a couple of forum members in the past months. The problem is that we needed to hit play at the same time and also do the same thing with pausing/resuming if there was a bathroom break or whatever else. I hear there are solutions for Plex syncing so if I can figure this out, we're sorted.

Edit: I think this is possible with Plex Media Player for Windows and something called "Plex Together" which is easy to use.

There's also another thing which is called "transcoding". Plex has the ability to re-encode a video on the fly in case somebody needs to watch with lower bandwidth, like on a phone for example or an internet connection that just isn't fast enough for 1080p. However, my server's CPU is only powerful enough for 2-3 transcodes at the same time, so it would probably be best to use 720p source media instead of 1080p if there are lots of people. That way, there is no transcoding if it's simply streaming the original video.

With that technobabble out of the way, I'll try to find a good way to sync Plex and we'll have to find a good time to do this thing and also a good method of communication since Plex doesn't have a chat function. Oh yeah, the whole chat room thing...

Before Outlaw Star Nexus, this community was called Outlaw Star UK as some of you know. (Here's a blast from the past.) We had a very similar discussion about chat rooms. I decided to go ahead with it and installed a chat room that connected with forum accounts on the server, but it slowed the forum to a crawl so it was very short-lived. After that we decided on IRC which worked, but in both circumstances it was a bit of a problem. Here's the deal: I thought OSUK had a problem with activity but things are much more difficult now with OSN. I axed the chat room on OSUK (the members understood my reasoning) because people were just using the chat room and not the forum. Unfortunately forums need momentum. I've considered Discord I really don't want a repeated problem and for OSN to become a ghost town, because that's what happens with niche communities. Maybe if there was a way to only have it open up during the anime night. Saturday or Sunday or something...

    Hmmm.
I'm not entirely sure how it works. The guys running the server I'm on use something called rabbit, which is likt e live streaming site where they stream anime episodes (and a chatbar on the site to boot) and we all see at the same time. Though it did run into complications when I joined because I didn't see/hear anything for the first half of a first episode, lol.
Maybe I'll ask them about it.

    Why rely on a middleman?

    Hey, I was wondering.-plexanime-jpg

Not to mention, apparently Plex Together supports chat as well.
