Thread: Login & Posting Problems 3: Electric Boogalee

So KorinKitty has told me that she's still having site issues. While I wish she had kept me posted on this she said it was more of an inconvenience than anything too serious. These site issues were discussed four months ago. In essence, a few members were reportedly being logged out or there were problems with posting. But everyone stopped talking about it.

The thing is, I may be an administrator but I'm not a web developer. If people don't tell me these things there's no way I can know any better. From what I knew there wasn't any real cause for concern. I can only resolve this if the bug is reported because everything is working fine on my end. I was facing problems too and I hired somebody to fix it. I thought that eventually it was all done and dusted.

If you've been having site problems, could you let me know what they were? If you haven't had any issues at all you should let me know that too because that helps me narrow it down. By the way, to those who usually use the app, I'm talking about issues on the desktop website. Those bugs probably wouldn't exist in the app.

Some other info that would be useful for identifying problems...

What OS are you using? What browser(s) do you use? Do you disable things like scripts and cookies? Do you use many (or any) extensions? Do you choose for your session to be remembered when you log in? So on, so forth...

the previous fix 4 months ago solved all my problems when using the site on Desktop via Brave & FireFox. I was one of the two who had login issues but that went away and it has been smooth sailing since.

i also use mobile once or twice per day and haven't experienced any issues.

That helps, thanks. If other members here would respond whether or not they have had any errors that'd be good too. It's all about narrowing it down so if I hire another coder (even if I can fix it myself I don't really have the time) he'll have more to go on.

Oh yeah, another important question for everyone: Do you use a VPN?

I do not use a VPN when I use OSN.

I haven't had any problems. On my PC I use Firefox, and I don't have problems there.
I use mobile a lot as well, and use Chrome and I haven't had any problems.
I started using a VPN on my phone last week, and I still haven't had any problems.
The only thing I've experienced is it rarely not automatically logging ne in. But I've never had the site log me out while I'm using it.

Sorry for getting back to you late, pseudo, but thanks a lot for your report. It helps a lot. I think that VPNs should usually be okay to use with the forum. I guess I requested that detail as a "leave no stone unturned" thing, lol. The forum allows the use of multiple IP addresses by members, so any sign-in (or logging out) problems would be typically seen as a problem with cookies. But a VPN doesn't change your cookies. How often would you say that "rarely not automatically logging me in" problem occurred? It could be that your browser has a maximum amount of time to store automatic site logins.

I hope by collecting this kind of data I can single out the problem and find out what's been causing it on Korin's end. I get the feeling that it must be something to do with her connection, perhaps the DNS. If it's happening to her with multiple browsers it can't be the browsers on their own. If Korin sees this, if possible I suggest creating a Wi-Fi hotspot with a phone and trying to reproduce the error with that different connection. (If also possible, using another computer like a laptop could help further.)
