Thread: Suggestion: Add Niche Gamer to the Article Posting Bot

I guess this is mostly directed at Mantis but I'd like other peoples' opinions on this as well in case I'm way off-base here or missing something about this news source. I just found Niche Gamer this morning and I think the topics they cover and independent nature makes their articles roughly as good as the stuff posted by Oneangrygamer. I wrote about them in a thread over here. They're anti-censorship, post anime cuties on Twitter, and they're funded by banner ads & Patreon/SubscribeStar. They don't take any $ from the industry whatsoever and their coverage of touchy topics makes it obvious that they aren't compromised at this point.

I guess my suggestion/request is that I'd like to see articles from Niche Gamer.

I've known about Niche Gamer for some time. It didn't come to mind when adding sites to Gilliam II because I wasn't sure if it has RSS feeds. Since RSS seems to be supported, I don't see why not, but it's not quite as simple as that. I have to break down the content by categories. Many game sites only have gaming as a part of their content. That, or there's plenty of miscellaneous off-topic content.

For example, this section isn't entirely about video games. One Angry Gamer tends to focus on controversial topics that are usually about video games. These kinds of discussions can get a little heated, so to offset that I decided to add Exclusively Games that keeps politics out of it. On the other hand, Niche Gamer's "Chinese Government to Impose Facial-Recognition for Internet Access Under Social Credit System" article isn't about video games at all, but in the event that Gilliam II grabs an article that isn't about games I just have to move the thread to the relevant forum.

It'd be best to choose one Niche Gamer category for Gilliam II to get articles from. Probably reviews or previews, then. Or with culture articles, staff would be responsible for moving the threads when necessary. Let's say I had all three of those: reviews, previews and culture. I'd need to have these process as separate forum tasks. It's a bit of a pain but it allows you to schedule thread creation and not have everything posted at the same time.

Some years ago (you know the backstory but I can't share it here) when I had a run-in with Kotaku and was banned from NeoGAF I just gave up on gaming news websites altogether. It was my understanding that they had all remained trash, but apparently those of you (including the comments in the other thread where Niche Gamer is being discussed) who found Niche Gamer like it, so I'm glad my kneejerk analysis was correct. That being said, this is simply a suggestion thread because I personally would like to come to OSN and see Niche Gamer articles to kill two birds with one stone and have more to talk about here. If the implementation is too difficult then I totally understand. If you are able to limit the posts to the review and preview categories, I think that would be sufficient. I don't need political commentary from a gaming news source, even if I agree with it and it would create a steady stream of forum moderation that we may get tired of keeping up with.

Anyway, it seems like a news source whose articles people would like to see discussed on OSN. That's really the extent of my suggestion, thanks for considering it. If you think the culture articles would be valuable as well, I'd do what I could to help moderate when they land in an off-topic sub-forum.
