    Custom PC?

How many people here have a custom built PC? By means of it actually being bought piece by piece and put together. I do and prior to this one, I was only ever using laptops. This is my first desktop and I LOVE IT! My husband actually built it for me. Sweet fella he is

Anyways, do you have a custom PC? If so, how have you enjoyed it? Did you build it yourself?
If not - have you ever considered getting one/building one?

Well I wanted to learn how to build one but it would take time to learn that I think. But I am currently using a custom built PC made by my wife's cousin. It still works fine though the processor isn't one of those i series made by Intel. It still runs smooth and it costs way cheaper than buying ones that are already built. At least I can bring it to my wife's cousin if ever I would need an upgrade.

I got my first PC (as in, not shared) from a site called Ginger6 which was pretty standard except it had a decent Nvidia graphics card which allowed me to play pretty much whatever I wanted at the time, i.e. Portal and TF2. I got it to play RE5, GTA IV and Crysis though the frame rate would probably be far less acceptable to me now as an adult. That hunk of bolts served me well over the years. I definitely wouldn't trust myself to put one together by hand, those components are expensive enough without my clumsy ass fiddling with them.

My hubby uses a custom built computer as well. We were originally planning to buy a laptop but since we're just at home most of the time, we decided to build a custom PC instead. Not only you can customize it the way you want it, it's also cheaper and can save you a lot of money compared to buying brand new laptops.

Yeah a lot of prebuilt ones will charge you for fluff and filler you don't even want or need.

I paid $850 for my first laptop back in 2006. The desktop my husband built me cost me about $500 including the keyboard and monitor which were about $150 combined. He used some old parts he had and I bought the rest new. It would BLOW any computer that cost $500 at Bestbuy out the water. This is before I upgraded the graphics card last year on it and got some new fans. Runs like it is brand new.

I think we are related @KorinKitty. We seem to have a lot in common.

I have a custom built PC, but I can't take credit for it. My husband is the computer whiz around here too. He's built every system we've had since our very first Gateway, lol. After that, he took over never looked back.

My current one is about like yours. Some of his spare parts and some newer parts (always have to have a good video card). I don't mind though. I'm not as consumed with power as he is, so as long as mine does what I want it to do, I'm good.

I'd never consider buying one in a box again. Half the stuff would probably be obsolete by the time you got it home (and cost more too).

Wow! That must be a really nice PC you have now. Mine just cost me around 200 dollars, if I had 500 dollars to build a PC then I might be using a really good one right now. And yes, custom built PCs are way better than ones they are selling in stores. Not to mention you can make a good one with around half the price they're selling it.
