Do you consider yourself a "weeb"?

By definition, according to the internet...

A weeb is a male fan of anime and/or manga, has a waifu, and is generally obsessed with Japan and Japanese culture.

I think the term is hilarious and when guys actually label themselves as a weeb, I have to feel it is more of a joke than anything. I can't imagine every guy who is not Japanese that likes anime/manga and Japanese culture to legit own a waifu. lol

I don't think I've ever met the criteria to be a weeaboo. As some know, I've been critical of oh-so-sacred Japan before and I only watch a little anime each year (aside from Outlaw Star which I'd typically rewatch for something fact/lore-related) and I do agree that the whole weeaboo insult is often treated as an inside joke among friends. However, actual weebs do exist.

This may be a joke, but Jesus Christ, there are weeaboos out there who base their long-term diet on their anime-induced love for Japan. I told the story about Cheese Guy before, but that guy got his name for a reason. He reeked of 100% not-from-concentrate weeaboo. I'm not going to go into his abysmal hygiene and revolting odours again but he ate ramen all the time. Usually with discount processed cheese, of course. His weeb friends who trudged over to my university halls of residence fit the weeb stereotype to a T. Couldn't get to sleep without headphones and loud music to drown out their Beavis & Butthead-style laughing and snorting at anime.

I swear to god, the woman once wore a t-shirt like this.

Shit doesn't get old a whole decade later.

    Eh, sort of.

I've been watching more anime than modern movies. I think most anime we get today, even the ones that are not so good, have more sincerity than most modern western movies ( I would go on a rant on how sardonic, post-modern irony has ruined a lot of western cinema but that's another topic for another day), although I would say it's sort of an extension of my love for asian cinema in general. I think aspects of japanese culture is really cool but I think Japan is far from a utopia. I guess you could say I'm more of a fan of Japanese pop culture than regular, japanese culture.

I do like some japanese snacks but I don't get it regularly just because the shipping from Japan can be a pain and, since I'm at work most of the day, I have to make a trip to the post office since I'm not around to sign for the package. I tried some japanese chips and sodas (Don't remember which ones on the top of my head). Pocky is good and I especially like dipping it in peanut butter.

So all in all, I guess you can say I have some weebish tendencies but nothing fall on cringey or crazy.

As a joke with friends, I absolutely call myself a weeb. Mostly because I'm the biggest anime fan of all of us.
But I dont actually consider myself a weeb. I love anime and watch anime more than most American shows nowadays, like Starwind.
I also own a decent amount of manga, a few films (snagged Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya on sale. Super happy about that) and a few t-shirts.(most of which I've gotten compliments on. Hooray!)
I love anime, but I dont obsess over my favorite series/characters, I dont own any body pillows, and I dont vehemently defend or hate on any show/character.
So I wouldn't call myself a weeb. A big fan of anime? Absolutely. But not a weeb.

I guess I hit some of the points, but calling myself (or being called a weeb) would be as a joke. I'm probably the closest thing to a real weeb on here, or at least I was. My entire apartment had anime posters, hundreds of anime figures, 16 game consoles hooked up at once, and I've traveled to Japan 8 times (lived there for a year & 3 months)...and my wife is Japanese. Does that count as a waifu? She's not 2D so I guess not, but a boy has the right to dream...right?

But none of this ever had that aspect of bleeding into my public life. I think weebs lose their self-awareness and descend into cringe territory, but I kept my hobbies at home and watched anime mostly alone, then went to my job or school like a normal person. No dakimakura in my car's passenger seat, no stinky onahole in my backpack. I kept things tasteful aside from the mountain of merchandise.

Like pseudohippie said: I'm a biiiiiiig fan of anime, but not a weeb per-se.

Absolutely not. I can't really expand on that.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

Strange Google Images searches, my friend. I know we've all been there.

I hadn't even watched the video. For a very small channel it's pretty good. Oh, I have some Mikado in my kitchen. Got them on offer since they're usually overpriced.

(And no, I don't have a secret weeaboo double life. )
