    Most Depressing Anime Scenes

If you have YouTube links, post some saddening or downright depressing scenes from anime films/series here, but remember to use spoiler tags! Even if you're replying to one and your reply contains spoilers! I'll start with a disturbing scene from the original Fullmetal Alchemist. Whilst it doesn't spoil anything key to the main plot and it's fairly early on in the series, I'd consider it a moderate spoiler. So, unless you've watched FMA, you've been warned even if it's not major...

    FMA: Episode 7
Since this video doesn't explain everything, the Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric and his brother (Alphonse, who is the suit of armour) are staying with a scientist for a few months called Shou Tucker, who has a daughter called Nina and a dog called Alexander. Nina's a young child, often playing with Alexander and requesting Ed and Alphonse play with them.

Shou became a State Alchemist, which basically means he's an alchemist officially registered in the military. He became well known for his amazing abilities with alchemy, and supposedly the ability to create a talking chimera. However, he was threatened by the military and was told if he doesn't produce something impressive, he'll be stripped of his badge. I'll let the video do the rest of the talking.

    Dang Mantis.
Pulling out the big guns already.

Most depressing thing for me was the ending of the Rurouni Kenshin Reflections OVA.
But for that you would really have to see the rest of the show first.

    Beyond that.
Trigun, the manga, vol. 10 about made me cry.

    RE: Most Depressing Anime Scenes

To me these are depressing scenes

    Escaflowne
There was one scene in Escaflowne that pulled at my heart strings a bit. Involving Duke Freid and Allen Shezar (mantis, can you remember the episode?). I desperately wanted to give Allen a hug (I am a HUGE fan of Allen.... but most of my fave characters seem to have long hair and often come across as god's gift to women xD wonder why?).

But the one that made me go "Fuuuuuuuuuu~" was when Folken went against Dornkirk and said the epic line of "Let Finalia find true peace".

Now, I'm not too big on dogs... let alone animated ones, but this particular scene from Elfen Lied is just so damn upsetting.

    RE: Most Depressing Anime Scenes

Mantis why did you have to bring up nina and alexander, so depressing and messed up... D;[hr]
At first watch a lot of you may think this scene is quite weird. But after watching cowboy bebop and coming to this episode its rather depressing..
Everyone is leaving and going their own way, after all the adventures and hardships they've gone through. Jet and Spike are left there at dinner alone greatly impacted by their partner's departure... Its also symbolizes that the show is drawing to an end which I did not want. Not sure about some of you but it sure made me tear up a bit

    DBZ, when

Ah who am I kidding, I laughed my ass off at this scene.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

For some strange reason, I can't find the clip on YouTube. (Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough.) But the scene is from Pokemon: The First Movie. You know the scene. Where ash get's turned to stone and Pikachu cries... Yeah, You know that scene. You KNOW that scene.

    RE: Most Depressing Anime Scenes

I put off posting this for a while. It is by far the saddest anime I have ever seen. This is mostly because it isn't a work of fiction. The studio created it with the assistance of a survivor, and reproduced his story as accurately as they could. In other words, everything the boy experiences in this was a reality, and a true testament to how horrible humanity can be.

Whilst Grave of the Fireflies was upsetting (and different since it was based on the firebombings in Kobe), I think Studio Ghibli didn't want to go too far with it to not upset their viewers or cause a lot of controversy. And whilst a true event, the characters were fictional. The fact the characters in this were all real people really gets to your head. I can't watch this scene, despite seeing it a few times, without feeling a shiver down my spine throughout it all. The rest of the film after this is about the boy's struggle in the aftermath.

Oh, by the way, whilst it does have an English version, I do advise you to at least watch this clip below as is in Japanese. Or the whole film in Japanese. Whilst I usually watch dubs, I think in this case as you may understand, it makes sense to see it from as much of a Japanese perspective as possible.

    Barefoot Gen

Also, I recently rewatched Escaflowne, Blue. It did have quite a few sad moments, although it has nothing on some of the stuff I've watched. O_o
