Kimagure Orange Road's Creator Izumi Matsumoto Passes Away

Really sad to hear Izumi Matsumoto passed away, I love Kimagure Orange Road and is one of those anime and manga series with a fundamentally 80s feel.

I know he had a myriad of health problems for a long time and was living in a lot of discomfort. So at least he is no longer suffering.

If you haven't read Matsumoto's original KOR manga, I really recommend it as the anime missed out a ton of stuff, more or less a whole quarter of the story.

I was about to ask what this was about, but then i checked on your website for an article on it. I don't see one, so my question still stands: what's Kimagure Orange about?

I'm really trying to think of a way to do it justice, but the words aren't coming to me right now!

It has a similar relationship to Maison Ikkoku as Outlaw Star has to Cowboy Bebop. In that they're the best examples of their genre in the same time frame.

The series is about a boy who falls in love with the new girl at school, but ends up with her best friend instead. So a lot of it is about him trying to deal with this situation and be with the girl he really wants. This is a shonen series though, so of course the kid has psychic powers. Therefore a lot of hijinks ensues, including teleportation, mind-reading, alternate realities, time-travelling and all that good stuff.

I know it's cliche to say, but I think there's something in the series for anyone to enjoy.

Oh, that sucks. I've wanted to check out that anime for some time since I really enjoyed Maison Ikkoku.

If you plan on doing so, despite what I said about the anime and the manga above, the anime is one of those that is really visually pleasing to look at, so both are definitely worth your time.
