Weird anime you ended up enjoying?

There was this one.. I can't remember what it was called. It was a short series. I watched it on Netflix in like 2012 I think. It was like about alien girl and she falls in love, gets heart broken, all this stuff. Normally I avoid anime series that have a lot of nudity in them, specially at the beginning but i over looked it for this one and ended up enjoying it. I wish I could remember the name. I am sure someone will know what I am talking about. lol

Anyways, have you ever enjoyed a weird anime or one that is not typical to your taste?

Most anime is weird, at least by western standards. Me personally, I've always been attracted to the more crazy, gonzo comedies. Inferno Cop springs to mind. It's a Ghost Rider-ish cop who does battle with a mutant baby, gets a sidekick that gets turned into a snack and somehow goes to egypt. It's hilarious.

Well, I've watched haganai and i guess it's a little weird. These kids make a club to try to learn how to make friends. It gets kind of pervy weird in the dialogue with one character that likes to play hentai games on the pc but won't admit it.

I think Starwind made a good point there. To most people, most anime is weird. Though within our communities it depends on the kinds of niches we follow, if any. I'd say there's a line between something that's weird and something we wouldn't typically watch, so I'm going to answer the two separately...

Weird... well, there's one anime film I enjoyed mostly for its weirdness, actually. Buuut I'm probably not going to post that one because it's beyond sick. I can stomach these things but many can't. I think the next choice might be Paranoia Agent. It's unusual but I enjoyed it.

As for an atypical choice, I've gotta say Maison Ikkoku. It's possibly in my top ten favourite anime (the original manga seems more or less the same so far) and I approached it with some caution since I've never liked romantic comedies. It's hilarious though, and just something you can mellow out to. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for dramatic anime, and shows like Maison Ikkoku are good fun as you can enjoy them more passively. Highly recommended.

That is true. I mean when you really think about it, a lot of anime stories or concepts just seem out of place for our culture and typical taste but to me, the really "weird" ones are more than just talking animals and robots with brains. The weird ones to me tend to be mostly centered around female characters who are over sexualized. No matter how good/funny a story may be, I just can't get into it.

Doesn't get any more bizzare than Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan. I enjoyed the subversion of an overused trope and absurdist comedy, even though it bordered on disturbing.

Brace yourself my friend. You're going to be in for one crazy ride! While you're at it, check out Ninja Slayer. It's another show by Studio Trigger that has a similar style.

Inferno Cop definitely is "weird" (even in anime terms) and I too enjoyed it. Another one for me would be Cromartie High School. It's so wonderfully weird, and I literally watched subbed and dubbed one after the other, just to watch it again and because the English dub is actually pretty funny too.
