    New here!

I've ninja'd around for a while, having viewed the forum for the first time after watching OLS Abridged and related videos. More love to Outlaw Star! I grew up with the anime series and it's one of the first I've had the pleasure to own. I'm schooled as an artist with a focus in traditional animation and pre-production—this series certainly influenced that choice. I have a side interest in Japanese, though don't know it well enough to accurately translate.

Hmhmhm, I can't think of much else to add, feel free to ask questions.

    RE: New here!

Hello, ska. It's nice to see a new member, and certainly one with a great taste in anime and gaming, and music too! It's very interesting that you're an artist. You should share some of your art. Have you ever travelled to Japan before? I have taken a look at your profile. Hah, can't say I'm a big fan of FLCL, though. I love mind**** anime, but FLCL didn't really seem to have any kind of direction at all. It was randomness to the extreme. I'm currently watching Gurren Lagann which is great so far.

Any OSTs and chiptunes you like in particular? (I'm a sucker for film/anime/game music!) I'm planning to replay the Golden Sun series since I never completed the second game (I think I got to the trident part which was as annoying as finding the triforce pieces in Wind Waker) but loved the first. However, from what I played of the DS game, it seemed a little inferior. I guess I should give it more of my time.

Anyway, this was a nice introduction (and profile) to read. Glad to have you on board.

Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Whoah, I didn't think anyone would read it. Thanks so much. Yeah, I will share some of my work sooner or later.

FLCL was made to test how far the studio could go in animation, so it is relatively plotless but great to watch. Gurren Lagann is a lot of fun.

I have not traveled to Japan, but it's one place I plan to visit someday.

Hmmm, chiptune... I like Anamaguchi and Unicorn Kid's work. Surasshu's Force of Spark is one of my favorites.

OSTs are all over the place. I'm a sucker for music that pulls at the listener's emotions, something that emphasises what you watched. Schindler's List Main Theme kills me every time. I mostly listen to anime and game OSTs, the ones for Outlaw Star and Eureka Seven are particularly great. There are some hidden gems, like the first and second OST of Katekyo Hitman Reborn. There's something about traditional instruments that resonates with me.

Haha, I haven't completed the second game of Golden Sun yet either—I'm also stuck finding the trident pieces. The third game was underwhelming for me, too.

Well my time here has been great so far, this is a nice community.

    RE: New here!

I'd hope the community spirit will be rejuvenated soon in larger quantities. It was thriving a couple of months back, at least to the scale you'd expect from a niche community. Sometimes it can be tough, though. I'll blame the season. What other communities have you enjoyed? Regarding FLCL, yeah, figures. It didn't do much for me. The animation wasn't bad, but I'd recommend Paranoia Agent. Whilst it isn't the best anime series in the world, it has a few fun episodes, retains a mind**** nature, and you at least have some clue as to what is going on. The anime film Mind Game is also one I'd recommend.

I must say, that's an excellent Jim avatar! I'm scanning my memory to try and identify whether that's been ripped from an Outlaw Star screenshot and given wonderful Photoshop treatment, a vector image, or both. Nothing yet! Heh, Anamaguchi! I'll admit, I've only listened to the Scott Pilgrim game OST by them, but I love it. I listen to it at least once a week. I'm absolutely with you on music that evokes emotions. This is why I love soundtracks, classical, and other non-vocal music. For the former, it's being able to associate the music with a scene that you fondly remember. For the latter two, it's drawing your own interpretations from the music, not lyrics.

(Two of my favourite Scott Pilgrim tunes for the hell of it.)

    RE: New here!

I'm excited that such a niche community has grown so much. Other communities? I have a deviantart account, but I haven't been a part of a forum in years. The last one I was a part of was for Lord of the Rings, but it's since closed.

Paranoia Agent is good, I love the opening best! The series is creepy, yet fascinating, and the episode describing the animation staff is great. It has a Paprika vibe to me, but that may just be the opening theme and realistic design of the characters. I haven't heard of Mind Game, but I'll look into it, thanks!

The Jim avatar is neither—sample of my art following the character designs from the anime. Animators and story-artists gotta be able to draw anything, haha. The eyes have my own twist, and hair, I don't even know. I could have followed the style correctly, but I'm pretty lazy.

Yeah, ohhh, the music in Scott Pilgrim is great! OSTs and lyric-less music are just fantastic for all sorts of reasons. I close my eyes and imagine a story taking place, like watching a movie in my mind. Audio dramas are fun for similar reasons.

You're pretty good. No wonder I thought it was actually a piece from Outlaw Star's art team itself. The hair is fine. Jim's hair is very similar to Gene's, just a little dorky. Oh, another fan of Paprika. That's nice to see. That was a great film. I wouldn't say it's for everyone, but for those who would like it it's fantastic. The animation is excellent too—especially at 1080p! Mind Game is really something. Probably the most frantic anime I've seen.

It sucks to hear about the LotR community, by the way. You'd think something about a franchise that large would be quite successful, especially with The Hobbit coming soon. (I'm also a fan of LotR to an extent.) Audio dramas are fun, but I wish the Outlaw Star one had a translation.

Welcome to the forums, ska. Knowing your perspective on OLS, you'll have a grand old time.

Do you happen to like ska music, though? I'd figured since you put that as your username, I assume your a fan?
A boy has the right to dream. There are endless possibilities stretched out before him. What awaits him down the path he will then have to choose; the boy doesn't always know. At some point the boy then becomes an adult, and learns what he was able to become. Joy and sadness will forever accompany this. He is confronted with a choice; when this happens, does he bid his past farewell in his heart? Once a boy becomes an adult, he can no longer go back to being a boy; the boy is now a man. Only one thing can be said: "A boy has the right to dream.". For those endless possibilities are stretched out before him.

We must remember...all men were once boys.
